Protein production in bacteria, baculovirus, and mammalian cells. Proteins are typically purified following a standard 3 step protocol which includes: affinity capture, ion exchange and size exclusion. Specific techniques can be employed depending on the protein, the experimental requirements, tags and yields. Removal of tags with TEV protease can be employed.
CryoSTEM and CryoTEM tomography on a Tecnai F20 with Quantum/K2 camera and BF/DF/HAADF STEM detectors.

Crystallisation screening: Utilizing the sitting and hanging drop by vapor diffusion methods for crystallising soluble proteins, using the Mosquito, and LCP Mosquito crystallisation robots.
The Structural Proteomics Unit (SPU) within the Weizmann Institute of Science provides service, consultation, and guidance to scientists at any stage along the pipeline from gene to structure. The SPU implements state-of-the-art technologies for challenging scientific questions and offers various services, including protein production, purification, and crystallization screening. Weizmann’s Electron Microscope (EM) unit offers cryo-STEM, cryo-TEM imaging, and tomography.
